Is there an entrance exam for the Residency Program?
In addition to submitting an application with recordings and written materials, we do ask for a demonstration of vocal range, sight reading, and one solo piece sung during your on-campus interview. There will also be a short music theory assessessment during your interview in order to determine what your may need to study further in preparation for the program.

When can I interview for the Residency?
After the faculty have reviewed your application materials, we will reach out to you to schedule your interview date.
How long is a Residency year?
Residency training begins September 1, with the beginning of the liturgical year. Residents are required to be present one week prior to the beginning of training (August 25). The Residency is a continuous 9 months, with an optional Christmas break, allowing residents to remain active at the monastery during the Christmas season if desired. The Residency concludes with the annual St. Tikhon’s Memorial Day Pilgrimage at the end of May.
How much does the Residency Program cost?
Residency Program Fee:
Tuition - $11,500, Inclusive of 9 months of professional music coursework, personalized coaching, voice lessons and weekend workshops.
We do have limited work study options available for students who are interested in off-setting the cost of tuition. Please contact us upon application for more details.
Room & Board:
Male students - $4,728, Includes on-campus housing for 9 months in seminary dorm + full meal plan
Female students: $3,300, Includes off-campus housing for 9 months in shared farmhouse near the monastery
$714, Includes 4 meals/weeks at seminary
Where do Residents live?
Male Residents may reside in male-only housing on campus. Female Residents may reside in a shared farmhouse a few minutes from the monastery, or are assisted in finding local, off-campus housing. All residents may eat lunch in the seminary dining hall when seminary classes are in session.
What is a typical weekly schedule for the Residency?
Residents will attend coaching sessions and classes weekly Monday through Friday, as well as have singing and directing responsibilities during services on weekdays and weekends. Visit our Residency overview page to view a sample weekly schedule.
Are there opportunities for me to study Orthodox music without being a music resident?
Yes, absolutely! We offer music workshops throughout the year dedicated to topics like choral conducting, leading your choir, vocal training and more. Visit our weekend workshops page to see what workshops are currently available.
